I am obsessed with photo editing apps and Instagram themes. My biggest problem when it came to building an IG aesthetic was that the ones I saw online seemed so limiting; I didn't want to be stuck only posting photos that had pink in it, for example, so I came up with a solution that gave me more creative freedom.
My strategy was to use apps to create a filter/aesthetic that I could use on almost any photo I wanted and make it look cohesive. I would use the same setting on almost every photo and upload them into the Preview app before posting to see how it looked.
MY TOP 6 PHOTO EDITING APPS - 2019
Preview: Plan your feed in advance and see how your photos will look together before you post it. I used to love the filters it came with, but have transitioned to the filter P100 on Darkroom. I still use preview to see how everything will look.
Darkroom: Way better than VSCO in my opinion because of all the filters and settings. This app comes with editable filters that you can save as "formulas" for repeated use. I think it's worth paying for if I decide to change my theme. Right now I use the free P100 filter.
Kuni Cam: I paid for the full version because I love the dust and light effects. It also lets you put effects over videos when you pay (but I think this greatly lowers your video's resolution).
Pixaloop: Lets you take a still photo and make parts of it move like a boomerang. Try it as long as you want for free!
Snapseed: This Google powered app has some useful and unique editing tools, especially for artists and perfectionists who care about white balance (reducing yellowness in pictures)
Spark Post: This app lets you create cool and professional layouts for IG stories and IGTV. Unfortunately, it puts watermarks at the bottom of your image unless you pay, which may be annoying to some
